The Virtue of Helping a Distressed Community

Islam teaches truth, cleanliness, goodness, and kindness. It encourages mutual kindness and benevolence, as Islam itself is synonymous with goodwill. Accordingly, the last Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him), said: “Religion is sincerity (goodwill).” We said: “To whom?” He said: “To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, and the leaders and common folk of the Muslims.” (Muslim, p. 51, Hadith: 196)

Currently, due to recent rains and floods, many Muslims in Pakistan are waiting for your help. Allah Almighty loves those who do good, as stated in the Holy Quran: “And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:195)

Guiding towards goodness in worldly and spiritual matters, alleviating troubles and hardships, and wishing for every Muslim what you wish for yourself—this is true goodwill. As you know, many areas in Pakistan have been devastated by floods, leaving people homeless, separated from their families, and deprived of their valuable belongings. They urgently need clothes, food, shelter, and money. In this time of trial, they are waiting for your help, kindness, and goodwill.

Remember, Islam commands benevolence even towards the oppressor, and doing good holds great importance in Islam. Allah Almighty loves those who benefit others.

The last Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him), said: “The person who is most beloved to Allah is the one who brings the most benefit to people, and the most beloved deed to Allah is to make a Muslim happy, to remove his trouble, to forgive his debt, or to satiate his hunger. For me to walk with my brother regarding a need is more beloved to me than secluding myself in this mosque for a month. Whoever suppresses his anger, though he could act on it if he wished, Allah will fill his heart with contentment on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever walks with his brother regarding a need until he secures it for him, Allah will establish his feet firmly on the day when all feet will slip.” (At-Targheeb wa At-Tarheeb, Vol. 3, p. 265, No. 22)

He further said: “Whoever brings joy to a believer’s heart, Allah will create an angel from that joy who will worship and declare the oneness of Allah. When the person enters the grave, the angel will come to him and ask, ‘Do you not recognize me?’ He will reply, ‘Who are you?’ The angel will say, ‘I am the joy you brought to so-and-so’s heart. Today, I will bring you comfort in your loneliness, keep you steadfast in answering the questions, and intercede for you before your Lord on the Day of Resurrection, and show you your place in Paradise.'” (At-Targheeb wa At-Tarheeb, Vol. 3, p. 266, No. 23)

With the intention of goodwill and bringing happiness to the hearts of Muslims, whoever can, should strive to benefit them with their wealth and valuable possessions as much as possible. May Allah Almighty grant us all the ability to partake in this noble cause together. Ameen.
